Day 38: Albanyà to Mas Barell
32km, 1600m elevation gain.
So hot and dusty here. Very dry. Reminds of Australia a fair bit. Passed through a little town halfway through my day that I had hoped to stay at, but everywhere was completely booked out being a Saturday. There are limited wild camping options here as water is scarce and would require dry camping. I met a lovely French couple in a cafe who had hiked the CDT as well as a few other interesting long distance hikes, and we chatted for ages and have exchanged contact details. They let me know that a section of national park after La Jonquera is officially closed due to fire risk, though they slipped through and didn’t linger.
I had planned on walking all the way to La Jonquera however literally everywhere was booked out, so with much reluctance I decided to wild camp on the side of a dirt track after a 4km water cary so I had some water for dinner, and the next morning.
