reminiscing
In preparation for this adventure, I’ve been having a think about what photography gear I’ll travel with (if any). 7 weeks of hiking the steep mountains in the Pyrenees makes me count every gram, as I’ll be carrying all of my own equipment for hiking/camping/photography/food and water (more on this later).
During my last overseas trip that featured a photography/travel blog, I carried my Sony A7RII and 55mm f1.8 prime lens for the duration. Mirrorless cameras are lighter than DSLRs, tend to be smaller, and by just taking one fast prime lens I found I didn’t compromise on quality of images (though did inevitably have to be adaptable due to the lack of zoom capabilities). Since that trip, though, I’ve managed to source a 35mm f2.8 lens which is extremely light and being wider than the 55mm prime, is better suited to landscape photography.
Unfortunately, on a recent hike in Tasmania, the camera and lens suffered a drop onto rocky ground which has resulted in a postage to Melbourne and extremely pricey repair and recalibration job.
I’ll attach a few of my favourite photos from past adventures with the setup that I’ve described here.
And some from Japan.
