Day 28: Refugio de Baiau to La Cortinada

About 16km, 800m elevation gain.

1 month on the trail! And today has to have been one of the absolute highlights. We got moving early and scaled the steep and difficult scree slope to the Col (the hardest individual climb so far, by far). For every 1 step forward you would slide half a step back. But the light in the valley was beautiful and stepping finally into Andorra over the Col, to that view, was magic. I'm so happy to have spent the last little while hiking with these two - we have bonded and it has definitely been fantastic to have some company. The descent was long and steep, but we had a burger and coke at a restaurant in the busy ski resort town of Arinsal. This is the only town today that had a supermarket so we also stocked up for tomorrow. Then a really steep climb over a ridge and down to another valley and finally into a triple room in La Cortinada. Dinner at some point, I'm sure, and then an early night before the 5 or 6 hours into Encamp tomorrow for a rest day!
